On the first Saturday of every month, FLARE holds a public sport launch at the Waterfalls Launch Site. Launches start at 9:30. Public means that anyone is welcome to join us by launching their own rocket, or just stop by to meet us and watch. There is no fee for attending this activity. Sport, Model, and Medium Power (MPR) launches may be conducted at this site. Due to the proximity of HWY 70 we are limited to FAA Class 1 (official definition) rockets unless we arrange special clearances. In general, flights below 3000' AGL are fine.

SMRA Launch site, Alamogordo
On the third Saturday of each month, our sister club Spaceport Model Rocket Association (SMRA) hosts an HPR launch. This is where we most often conduct high power launches, and often conduct regional NAR contest launches. Sport launches are always welcome. This launch field is exceptionally well appointed, including permanent shade structures, porta-potties, and an artesian well. Electrical hookups for overnight camping are available upon request.
Here are driving directions from Las Cruces. SMRA has standing clearance to launch Class 2 (official definition) rockets up to 12,686' AGL. Permission is secured with Holloman AFB and the FAA prior to each launch day. As of April, 2012, FLARE will be announcing SMRA 3rd Saturday launches on our home page.
